The S-Roll Principle
A steel tube rotates around the fixed axle. The annular gap is separated by two seals into two semi-circular chambers.
The chamber facing the nip is hydraulically pressurised by oil. In this way an oil pressure is generated that stands in linear ratio to the cylinder forces.
This allows the S-Roll to adapt against the cournter roll ideally, ensuring an even and infinitely variable line force across the full roll width.
In the nip no friction whatsoever occurs, as the rolls rotating against each other are absolutely cylindrical. In addition, the variable adjustment of the line force (purposely uneven, too) allows for an active correction of the product.

The
in 2-roll execution offers many advantages. The compact design requires little space and allows for container shipment to the assembly point without the need for prior dismantling. Completely pre-assembled, cabled and funtionally tested, the calender can be commissioned within the shortest time.
In conjunction with the FleXRoll sleeve the
makes complex effects possible that could previously only be attained by conventional 4- or 5-roll calenders with paper or cotton rolls.

400 N/mm Set New Standards
With a maximum line force of 400 N/mm the
with deflection control raises the bar to set new standards. Especially technical textiles such as parachute silk or high quality outdoor clothing have to be calendered to attain a defined, low air permeability.
Other deflection controlled calender systems with synthetic coatings are limited to a line force of 300 N/mm. This means that the fabric needs multiple calendering to achieve the desired result also with regard to evenness.
The
can be designed for a maximum line force of 400 N/mm. With a specially adjusted surface technology the
already achieves best compaction results in just one passage.
For various calendering effects and depending on the fabric quality the S-Roll can be equipped with an SK3 coating (90° Sh D) or with a FlexRoll sleeve (80° Sh D) - or with both:
The FlexRoll sleeve can be removed and exchanged easily without even having to open the S-Roll's hydraulic system (see film below). Thus the achievable hardness ranges from 65 - 95° Sh A to 80 - 90° Sh D.
