Textile Calenders for Special Applications

One of the special applications in textile finishing is simili-mercerisation, which lends a special wash-resistant gloss to high quality damasks (e.g. African damask) and poplin material of pure cotton, at the same time keeping smoothness and density.

The  has four vertically arranged rolls:

Top roll: elastic roll with cotton cover
Middle roll 1: smooth highly heated steel roll
Middle roll 2: elastic roll with cotton cover
Bottom roll: smooth heated steel roll

Multi-roll calenders are used to imitate the traditionally discontinuous mangle effect, in today’s continuous process. With the help of a chaising guide roll rack the material is continuously packed in five to seven layers and continuously run through the calender. The material stack is run through each nip several times. Here weft and warp threads grip into each other and are not overly pressed, but are fulled, so that an oval cross section of the threads is created.
This way high quality twill or damask fabrics of cotton, linen or mixtures of cotton/polyester are treated, to render an elegant gloss and density as well as full handle.
The teXcal chaisingwith deflection controlled S-Roll technology consists of five rolls:

Top roll: S-Roll with loosely slid on FlexRoll sleeve
Middle rolls 1-3: elastic roll with FlexRoll cover
Bottom roll: S-Roll with slid on FlexRoll sleeve

The  is a 3-roll calender with an oil-heated steel axle and a slip-on embossing shell as well as a deflection controlled S-Roll with FlexRoll sleeve. It is suited for embossing flat and pile, for embossed, transfer and metallic printing, for relief and friction embossing. Fields of application are velvet, plush, clothing and furnishing fabric as well as fake fur. Smoothening effects are also possible with a smooth shell.

Top roll: elastic roll with polycotton cover (supporting roll)
Middle roll: embossing roll (arbor with a slid-on engraved shell)
Bottom roll: S-Roll with slid on FlexRoll sleeve

Thanks to the slid-on engraving shells a change of effect is quickly and easily possible (see film). Another advantage are the considerably lower investment costs for an engraving shell compared to an engraved roll.
